There are several ways I can find my credit score. It is easy and free, I will explain how now. This is the first step needed to clean bad credit.

If you have recently or are currently seeking credit as in a mortgage or car loan you can ask them for your score after you have given them permission to pull your credit. I always request this; after all it’s a free way to find my credit score!

If you do know, or can get your credit score you can get your free credit report through the credit bereaus. They will give you one free copy per year.

1. You can request credit reports at the AnnualCreditReport website.

2. Call (877) 322-8228 and request it here.

3. Go to the Federal Trade Commission website and fill out this form then send it to: Annul Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348.

If you already have your credit score this is sufficient as your score is not included with these reports. If you do not have your score already you will want to look at other ways to find your credit score and report.

The credit bureaus and other sites on the web will offer credit reports and scores, a good way to find your credit score. On a trial basis they will give you access to these for free. If you would rather not to pay you will need to cancel before the end or the trial period. Also they offer additional services like notices when an inquiry into your credit or a negative entry is added to your credit report. These are valuable in monitoring your report. I use one of these services and receive email alerts when a negative entry is made allowing me to investigate immediately.

This answers the question, “How do I find my credit score?”

Now that you have your credit report, here are 5 areas which can improve your scores.

1. Make your Payments on time. Your payment history is most important.

2. Amounts owed are the second critical. Improve your debt-to-credit-limit ratios by paying down balances.

3. If your credit history is less than 3 years it will improve with time, manage your credit wisely.

4. Balance out your credit cards and installment accounts.

5. Multiple inquiries into your credit made within a short period can lower your score. Inquiring into your own will not lower it.

Find your credit score, make your payments on time, reducing balances and balancing types of credit to lower your credit score.
